Traveling the Globe: The 2015 Edition

Capture

Well this was a busy year on the travel front for me. I think my 160 segments is the most I’ve flown in on year, but I’d venture to guess the mileage total was about 25,ooo miles short of my all time high. Although, I don’t have accurate records to validate against. Here’s how things broke down The 2015 Edition. Continue reading

American Express Centurion Lounge Las Vegas

I had a quick trip to the American Express Centurion Lounge Las Vegas. A few months ago. I was excited to finally make my first visit. On previous jaunts through LAS I was either running late or traveling via a different terminal so having time and being in the right terminal finally had its privileges.

Review: Airspace Lounge Cleveland

IMG_1532

On a recent trip to Cleveland I had the opportunity to visit the Airspace Lounge. It was close to 6 PM and the lounge was dead. I was the only person there for the 30 or so minutes I was hanging out. Airspace Lounges are a private company not affiliated with any specific airline. But as an American Express Platinum card holder I had complimentary access. Continue reading

Got Cash? Don’t Bother, Admirals Club To Go Cashless

IMG_1781

Well it looks like American Airlines Admirals Clubs will go cashless as of October 1st. I was at the St. Louis location this week and saw this sign in a couple different spots in the lounge. I can’t say I’m surprised, it’ll probably make reconciling nightly cash and monies from the bar and day passes way easier. I can’t imagine that the clubs bring in that much cash on a daily basis, and having to balance those funds has got to be a pain the butt.

In any event I’d call this a good thing it’s a minor change that I think most won’t notice. So make sure to bring your credit card to the lounge starting Thursday.

It’s A Lounge It’s A Terminal It’s A Lounge- Emirates First Class Lounge Dubai Terminal 3

TRIP REPORT INDEX: AROUND THE WORLD IN FIRST ON THE A380

IMG_0157

The main entrance to the First Class Lounge Terminal 3

After a wonderful flight from San Francisco I had a little wait in Dubai. I had landed a little after 7 PM and had a glorious departure to Seoul at 2 AM. Yeah was I psyched!! Really I was not, this was a crummy time to have to hang around the airport or the city. I could have left the airport for 4 hours or so, but I’m not sure what I could have done after say 10 PM. I’m sure there’s stuff open, but I really didn’t do much research, and wasn’t in the mood to just wander around. Now if it was earlier in the day I would have for sure done that but with that late of a departure, I knew I would be tired soon and didn’t want to “find something to do”. The alternative was get a hotel either in the airport or outside, but again for the short duration, I was not keen on spending upwards of $150 USD for a bed. Continue reading

Review: ANA Business Class Lounge- Narita

INTRODUCTION

Be sure to check out the introduction if you’re interested in reading about my Around-The-World Journey visiting six countries, flying over 42,000 miles in first class (except for two very short segments) and having the opportunity to experience Singapore Airlines Suites Class and Emirates First Class.

Review: ANA Business Class Lounge- Narita

After a short layover at the Narita Hilton I headed back to the airport for my flight to Shanghai-Pudong Airport. Because of my Star Alliance Gold status with United Airlines I had the opportunity to visit the ANA Business Class lounge. In Terminal 1 they have two lounges satellite 4 and 5, 4 is only for First Class guests and 5 has two sections (Business Class and Suites Class). In this case I went to 5 since I was in Business Class.

As Business Class Lounges go ANA at Narita some of my favorites. They are open and expansive, offer copious amounts of food choices, an incredible beer machine, and a killer noodle bar.

We loved this little airport is was so cute. It reminded me of what HNL was like in the early 80’s. I remember when I was 8 getting off a Pan Am flight on the tarmac and begin greeted with a lei. Although no lei’s here we did come straight off/on the tarmac, and the airport was open and just super cute. Bangkok Air petty much rules the place, but Thai, Silk Air and a couple other airlines have flights here weekly. Continue reading

American Express had done it again! They have recently opened a new Centurion Lounge at the San Francisco International Airport in terminal 3 by Gate 75. This Lounge is just amazing, let me start out by saying that much. If you haven’t been here yet make sure you trek over to the United Terminal to check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

This lounge like all the others (Las Vegas, Dallas, LaGuardia and a few others in South America plus coming soon to Seattle and Miami) have simple access criteria. Have an American Express Centurion Card, Amex Platinum or better like the Amex Black. I’m not a shill for Amex, nor do I make any money for promoting their card/services but I do have the American Express Platinum, with it’s hefty $400/year membership. That’s a long story, but it does come with a $200/year airline service credit and of course free access to their lounges worldwide, which are $50/per person entry otherwise. Besides that, the fact that you earn Membership Rewards that can transfer to many programs and also get access to really good hotel rates via the Amercian Express Fine Hotel and Resorts Program. It’s become one of my goto cards. Google it if you’re interested and you’ll find a dearth of information, but for me that’s all I’m going to say.

Review: Dublin Airport DAA Executive Lounge T-1

IMG_8285

Executive Lounge Terminal-1 to the left of the Premium Security checkpoint

I recently traveled to Dublin for the night and on my return trip home I had a chance to visit the DAA Executive Lounge at Terminal 1. It’s a contract lounge meaning that many airlines, and alliances utilize this facility and based on your status or class of service and what airline you’re flying you can gain access to this facility. In some cases airlines will provide you an invitation card at check in that will allow you access. In my case I was flying British Airways and as an Executive Platinum on American Airlines or Emerald One World status I was able to access the lounge. But at check I when I asked about lounge access the BA agent had no idea if I would get access nor would she give an invitation. No worries thought I was easily able to get in though.

At terminal one there appears to be two sets of security lines, one for premium passengers and one for the rest of the guests. The lounge itself is located after security and to the left of the premium security line. So once through security look for signs pointing to the lounge. Continue reading

Review: Admirals Club @LAX Remote Terminal

IMG_8068

Entrance to the new Admirals Club @ LAX’s remote terminal

I recently visited the NEW Admirals Club at LAX in the remote terminal, and boy was I pleasantly surprised. AA has had a remote terminal for many years and it provides service on most of, if not all regional jets and aircraft servicing LAX. This terminal provides services to places like Santa Barbara, San Diego, Monterey and Albuquerque to name a few. Being that LAX is one of AA US hubs, it plays a large role in getting passengers to  smaller stations throughout the Western US. Continue reading
