Last month I had a quick trip to Seattle and had a chance to stay at one of my favorite extended stay brands, Homewood Suites in Lynwood Washington. If you’ve never stayed at a Homewood, why not? What makes them unique is that all rooms have kitchenettes featuring full size fridges, dishwashers, stoves, microwaves and even dishes. Rooms range from studios to two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Plus they offer free breakfast, light dinner Monday to Thursday (with free beer or wine) and of course Wi-Fi. Who doesn’t want free booze? When I travel for work this is my go to brand if I have a choice and the budget is right.
This hotel brand has been around for several years I’m guessing 10 but it could be more, so there are many new build properties and also tons of properties that were converted from something else too. When you get a chance to stay in a new build hotel you’re in for a treat usually, and in this case being a hotel open since May of this year you’re in for a treat.

I had booked a King Studio Suite and that’s exactly what I received, not a big deal that I didn’t get upgraded it was plenty of room for a one night’s stay. The room had a fold out couch, coffee table and work desk. Plus a large screen TV and decent sized shower and bathroom area. It was a comfortable space to hang out and watch a baseball game, oh did I mention my Giants won the World Series? Ha seriously though the space was perfect and if I was here with my family we’d have had enough. Having a kitchen was also nice, although I didn’t need it this trip. But again having the space for cooking and stuff is great.

The hotel lobby and living space was also impressive. They had a large seating area for breakfast and dinner but also an outdoor fireplace living room and BBQ’s. It was pretty cool. I was pleasantly surprised by the outdoor space. It was really great. Even though this was not a resort in some exotic location, it had the cushy chairs and vibrant fireplace. All I needed was a beach and Mai Tai to round out the day. In this particular instance I didn’t take advantage of breakfast or the nighttime reception, but when I left in the AM it was packed. Although I don’t know what they had to offer it usually consists of eggs and something else hot, cereals, fresh waffles, fruit, yogurt and assorted breads. It’s not remarkable, but does the trick.
Next time you’re in the mood for more room, a comfortable space and want a new hotel be sure to check this one out.
